Even before his eyes open at 26 weeks, the child is sensitive to dark and light.

The eyelids remain closed until about week 26, when the parts of the eye are fully formed and the brain is prepared to receive visual signals. Even before the eyelids open, however, the baby is sensitive to changes in light, his heart beating faster when a bright light is focused on his mother's abdomen...
